Candle Care….Trim Your Wick
I know. Nobody needs anything else to care for. I’m a busy homeschooling mom of four with a circus of pets that need our attention, a newly planted orchard and garden to tend to, sports, and trying to attend all the social engagements when what I really want to do is check the “can’t go” box, grab a cup of cold brew, light a candle, and sit in my favorite chair. I’ll keep this SHORT and SWEET because my youngest and fourth child is probably going to color the new rug with markers before I finish typing this. If you know, you know.
You spent your hard earned money on my products. I want them to exceed your expectations and last as long as possible. It’s this simple. Trim your wick to 1/4” every time you light your candle. By doing this, you extend the life of your candle, eliminate the possibility for soot accumulation, and get a clean even burn of the candle with no wasted product. Don’t stop reading yet!
We all want a candle free of mutagens, carcinogens, and endocrine disrupters, that actually smells amazing just sitting on the counter and that permeates the space when it’s lit. I created that for Tide & Till. I chose a cotton core wick for our candles. I tested this wick for months and months under every condition possible to ensure its performance in my candles.
Here’s what I need you to do…….
Before you light your candle to signify to everyone in your home that you have cleaned and they better not touch anything or before you run yourself a hot bath to wash off the ketchup stuck on your arm from dinner, TRIM your wick. We’d prefer you use a dedicated wick trimmer, but we all know it’s buried in the dismal abyss of the kitchen junk drawer. In this case, take a piece of paper towel and place it over the unlit wick and pinch it off. Then, light your favorite Tide & Till candle and enjoy.
Tide & Till candles are formulated using science and lots of math ( I can hear my high school math teacher in my head saying you are going to use this one day whether you think so now or not ). Seventeen year old me thought she was so wrong. No way would grown up me be “mathing” for a living and here I am growing my dream. On a serious note, I created the perfect formula of wick size to vessel diameter and ratio of fragrance oil to volume of wax for the cleanest burn possible. Made for our home, with yours in mind.
Cheers,
Jess
